Student Sponsorship
Eligibility
A limited number of R2000 sponsorships, to cover registration costs, have become available through a generous grant from the South African Department of Science and Technology. These sponsorships are available to full time Honours, Masters and PhD students (not post-doctoral students) who are enrolled in entomology at a recognized tertiary institution in any of the 14 member countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) (For confirmation of the SADC countries, please visit www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/sadc.html.) Successful applicants will be expected to present an oral paper or poster at the congress.
How to apply
To apply for sponsorship, please complete the enclosed application form and return it, together with a title and abstract of your talk, as email attachments to Prof. Schalk Louw, Department of Zoology & Entomology, University of the Free State, Bloemfontein at louws.sci@ufs.ac.za., before 31 January 2008. Applicants must also provide a copy of their current, valid student identification card (with photo), as well as a letter from their supervisor evidencing their full time student status, otherwise the application will not be considered.
Post-application procedure
- All applicants will be informed, by email, of the outcome of their application by 08 February 2008. This allows successful applicants two weeks for final abstract preparation and submission to the Congress Organizers by 28 February (see 'Important Dates' on the menu bar).
- All successful applicants for student sponsorship will receive a reference number which must be provided as follows:
- in the "other special requests - Name" box on the registration form enter the words "Student Sponsorship"
- in the "other special requests - Request" box on the registration form enter your assigned reference number
- In addition successful students must also email a copy of their registration form, stating 'Student sponsorship' and their reference number in the cover letter, to the Congress Organizers. It should be clearly marked " Attention Gill Slaughter - Student Sponsorship" and sent to gills@turnergroup.co.za
- If, for any reason, you are unable to accept the registration fee waiver offer, please advise the organisers as soon as possible so that the opportunity may be extended to another qualifying applicant from the SADC Community.
Travel and Accommodation
Please take note that you will be responsible for all your own travel arrangements, passport and visa formalities, accommodation and meals other than those included in the official Congress programme. The Congress banquet is not included as it is available at an optional additional cost to all delegates.
Acceptance of your application should not be interpreted as a commitment by the Congress or its organisers to any financial contribution other than the waiver of your Congress registration fee.
